AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF FOCUS
The mission of FOCUS is to empower university students reaching their fellow students with the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ and equip them to become His disciples who live out His kingdom values.
The 4 Aims
- To foster the growth of a corporate witness to Jesus Christ as Lord in every university college in Sri Lanka.
- To encourage university students who profess personal faith in Jesus Christ to grow in Christian discipleship, submitting every aspect of their lives to His authority.
- To develop as an indigenous, interdenominational and biblical movement of students and graduates who will use their academic training and university experience for the glory of God and towards the transformation of Sri Lankan society to reflect His will and rule.
- To equip Christian university students for future servant leadership in the wider church of Jesus Christ in the world.
Who We Are
A local movement of students sharing and living out the good news of Jesus as local fellowships and as a national movement.
We pray that many students will be inspired to join the fellowships and hear God’s call for their lives. And that they will be open to change while they engage with their universities and learn how to be involved in changing the world for others.
It is also hoped that being together and working together will foster friendship and fellowship among them and that they will experience the joy of giving and gain a passion for life and work in Sri Lanka.
What We Do
We encourage students to study the scriptures and become graduates in understanding God’s word, as they graduate in their academic disciplines. To learn to handle scriptures in their context and apply his truth in their lives, while they learn to teach God’s word to others.
We bring students together in groups in their faculties/universities to pray, study the bible for mutual encouragement and accountability. To study God’s word systematically and obey Him in bearing witness to Jesus Christ through their university lives.
We organize regional camps and national conferences for students to meet other students who profess faith in Jesus Christ and learn from each other’s’ lives. They will have opportunities to hear from Christian leaders on faith and its application to their lives.
We bring the student leaders together for training and mutual edification. They learn how students can reach out to students in building the fellowship and university ministry for the glory of God.
We meet them one on one, listen to their stories and understand their backgrounds. We ask questions to help them reflect on how they can grow as disciples of Jesus Christ and bear witness to the good news of the gospel.
We have monthly meetings on subjects of interest and concern. We challenge the students to get involved in the issues affecting others around them, from their own faculties to the society. We urge them to consider professions prayerfully, live counter culturally and become agents of transformation of the society.
