Protest march against forced eviction
July 4th, 2007 by admin
The country is in an iron grip of terror, regardless of who the perpetrators are, the innocent are suffering and many have been rendered voiceless. The most recent was the eviction of Tamils without any thought from the city of Colombo and “returning†them to their “area of originâ€.
Though some in the country believe it is just, this kind of tit for tat retaliation by a democratically elected government is irresponsible.
Close on the tracks of a camp which dealt with matters such as this, some of the students from the Universities of Colombo, Kelaniya and Moratuwa joined in the street protest at Lipton Circus. Over 11 students took up boards and marched around.
Some took up boards that were available there, and some took up boards that were created at FOCUS. A very witty poster which would bring trouble to the bearer was also held up by one of our own.
Its encouraging to see the growth of young students who take an interest in the matters around them. Truly we are seeing a generation that will have a “Heart for His storyâ€.
