In the late 1970’s Christian university students from Peradeniya, Colombo and Moratuwa sought to unite committed Christian students from older & newer churches, with a vision of a university witness that combined evangelism & social action. In the early 80’s this vision spread to Jaffna & Kelaniya. In 1984, these various student groups organized themselves as a national body under the name Fellowship Of Christian University Students (FOCUS). It was legally registered in 1992.

FOCUS is an umbrella movement of Christian student Fellowships in various Universities in Sri Lanka. Presently, these comprise the Eastern University Students’ Christian Fellowship (EUSCF), the Jaffna University Students Christian Fellowship (JUSCF), the Kelaniya/Ragama University Students Christian Fellowships, the University of Colombo Medical Students Christian Fellowship (MSCF), the Peradeniya Discipleship Cells (DCs), the University of Moratuwa Student Christian Fellowship, the Student Christian Fellowship of Vavuniya Campus and the University of Colombo Christian Fellowship (UCCF).

Wherever possible these fellowships are registered and function as societies in their own Universities.
